Separated by the Colorado River are the scorching desert cities of Bullhead City, Arizona and the gambling town of Laughlin, Nevada where serial killer, El Jefe, stalks his women. Annually, El Jefe kidnaps a new victim shortly after leaving his previous years' victim in a gruesome public display. Rachael Pennington, a Bullhead Police detective, is driven to protect her city and determined to catch El Jefe. She is blindsided when he abducts her sister. The turbulent world of the Colorado River runs through the book and the lives of the Pennington sisters indelibly flow with the powerful and often treacherous currents.
The 7th Victim Nancy L Churchill Books
THE 7TH VICTIM by Nancy Churchill is a nail-biting roller coaster of a crime story. Three conflicted sisters – two of them in law enforcement, one trying to recover from terrible trauma – and the men involved with them, become tangled in the crimes and pursuit of a serial killer operating in the Southwest. Villains in the story range from the inept to the truly terrifying.I very much enjoyed the offbeat settings in the book. Rather than setting the story in Las Vegas or Los Angeles, Ms. Churchill chose more out-lying settings: Bullhead City, Arizona, with its nearby Davis Dam and casinos, the quiet Orange County suburb of Yorba Linda (childhood Quaker home of Richard Nixon), and the island of Catalina. She clearly knows these locales very well and brings them vividly to life. She uses the dam, located about 70 miles south of Hoover Dam on the Colorado River, as a very clever and chilling crime scene.
For its gripping plot and complex characters, I would have given THE 7TH VICTIM five stars. However, it has a cliffhanger ending, which is essentially no ending at all. The story simply stopped, leaving me frustrated. I realize it is the first book in a series, but I felt quite disappointed that the story was incomplete. I would point to Robert B. Parker's "Spenser" series or to J. D. Robb's "In Death" series as fine examples of carrying terrific characters through a very long series of books, but still giving closure to each individual novel. Particularly in a mystery/crime thriller, the case must be solved and wrapped up, or the reader feels cheated. Characters can continue to have unresolved conflicts in their private lives to carry over to the next book, but the case should be closed.
Nevertheless, if the reader is prepared for the cliffhanger, THE 7TH VICTIM can be enjoyed as an entertaining, insightful, and goose bump-filled story.

The 7th Victim Nancy L Churchill Books Reviews
I love the suspense of this story..I couldnt stop reading it I wanted to see what was going to happen next.
I liked this book as the characters were well developed and the suspense to find the killer was a page turner. Even though the book didn't end the way I expected, I am sure there will be a follow up in the future and I for one will be looking forward to it. Great job and can't wait for your next book!
The story premise was promising. A serial killer wors like clock work. Abducting, then returning the woman.. only dead.. a year later. Will the killer strike again again and who will it be. Intertwined are the lives of three sisters and here is where it gets messy. Their character building leaves a lot to be desired. The end is unexpected (sort of), but by then it is too late.
No ending. Are you kidding me?
A well written story but was disappointed at the end. This author kept you riveted throughout the book never knowing what was going to happen next. A serial killer on the loose and 3 sisters. One works for the FBI,one for the police dept and one just seems to be a party girl. A very fast paced book with the characters jumping off the page and than the end was such a let down.
Fairly good story line. However, characters are incompletely developed with missing holes, leaving the reader wondering what happened. Abrupt ending which leaves the story hanging.
I was enjoying this book until the end when it stopped in the middle of a chase scene. I liked the plot and the characters but I dislike when the book stops abruptly. Now I have to buy the 2nd book. Don' t call them stand alone novels when they are not. I feel I was tricked into buying another book.
